Overview

Accurate probe for temporary or semi-permanent flow logging.

  • Flow Range 0-10m/sec
  • Accuracy ±2% of rate
  • Pipe Size: 200-5000mm
  • Fluids: any electrically conductive fluid >50mS/cmGeneral

Insertion meters are an economic alternative to full-bore metering and can be temporarily or permanently installed to meet flow monitoring needs. Insertion meters can be used as a portable survey too where occasional measurement at many points is required or to improve knowledge of the distribution network. They can be used for the measurement of flow in large diameter pipes more economically than using full bore meters.

Their high sensitivity and versatility also enables flow profiles to be measured within a pipe. A gauging rod is used to determine the exact position of the head in the pipe. This is ideally, but not necessarily, in the centre of the pipe, for example with large diameter pipes. Insertion and removal can be carried out on live mains, without disruption to the supply, by fitting suitable gate valves at the tapping points.

Key Features

  • Permanent or temporary deployment
  • Economical measurement of flow - especially in large diameter pipes
  • Useful for surveying and network analysis
  • Bulk meter calibration application
  • Can be used for flow profiling
  • Easy to install and use
  • Can be inserted and moved under pressure
  • Can be used with any pulse/4-20mA datalogger

Design

The AquaProbe insertion meter comprises an electromagnetic sensing head mounted on the end of a support rod. The whole assembly can be installed in existing pipelines without the need for the major excavation or alteration to pipework associated with full bore meters. It can also be fitted without interruption to the flow and can be easily removed for periodic calibration or inspection, or inserted at a second location through the provision of tappings and valves on the supply pipelines.

Key features are the wide flow range, with minimum velocities well below insertion turbine or DP devices, and no moving parts, resulting in increased reliability and reduced maintenance. The AquaProbe insertion meter meets the widest variety of site requirements and applications, from permanent monitoring through to site surveying. The transmitter is fully submersible, thus enabling it to be locally mounted in chambers, which are liable to flooding or up to 200m remote from the probe.

The AquaProbe insertion meter is the ideal solution where there is no external power. User-replaceable batteries provide up to 2 years of battery life. Flow Range 0-10m/sec Accuracy ?2% of rate or ?2mm/sec, whichever is the greater.
