Background: RS Hydro received requests to expedite shipments of Solinst Model 403 CMT Multilevel systems, with the requirement to begin installations within a month.
In July 2022, RS Hydro were approached by two separate groundworks contractors to supply Solinst model 403 Multilevel systems for installation in Scotland. Installs needed to commence in August 2022, so a fast delivery was crucial. The 403 CMT is manufactured and shipped from Canada, making it challenging to install within a month. None-the-less, thanks to Solinst and RS Hydro's Sales and Operations teams, both 403 CMTs were delivered in approximately 2 weeks. This is impressive as coils of polyethylene tubing up to 500ft in length are essential components of the CMT system and must be carefully packaged and transported on skids.
The below images demonstrate the ability of the CMT Multilevel System to provide accurate discrete interval monitoring of groundwater, allowing more accurate identification of contaminated zones.
What is a CMT Multilevel System? Simply put, CMT stands for Continuous Multichannel Tubing. Each 'monitoring zone' has a dedicated channel within the tubing. Monitoring ports are built on the tubing, at site, to access each channel used for monitoring. Once the tubing is installed below ground, each port provides a discrete groundwater monitoring zone at a specified depth. Installation involves isolating the zones to prevent groundwater from mixing above, or below, the port. In this way the zones provide a representative sample at that depth and also allow for accurate level monitoring at the individual zones, giving an indication of vertical flow gradients. The isolated water is extracted from its zone (using various sampling options) and then analysed.
As a result, water samples taken from a CMT system are highly representative of the water chemistry at a specified depths in a borehole. Samples retrieved paint a clearer picture of how contaminated the water is, at a certain depth.
With a CMT, fewer boreholes need to be drilled on site thanks to the multiple zones for monitoring that it provides, along with the superior data from the higher resolution monitoring. In turn, operating costs are reduced with fewer monitoring locations to visit and sample.
Solinst has decades of expertise manufacturing and supplying CMT Multilevels for a variety of projects and environments worldwide. They are one of only a few organizations that offer Multilevel Monitoring Systems. CMT's have been used at former industrial sites, including nuclear power plants, soil gas sampling, waste disposal and landfill sites and oil contaminated land. They have proved to be an effective and versatile system for depth specific water sampling.
RS Hydro is proud to work with Solinst to deliver a variety of high-quality water sampling products to the United Kingdom. Thanks to RS Hydro's network, delivery times from Canada are minimized once manufacturing at Solinst is complete. Whether you require an eco-bailer, a pneumatic pump or even a CMT Multilevel system, we're pleased to offer Solinst's high quality water instrumentation, quickly and effectively. We look forward to assisting more of our clients in the near future with Multilevel Systems from Solinst so they can collect the best quality data on their monitoring sites.
