RS Hydro were contacted by different customers who have electromagnetic flowmeters installed on their process lines. One customer was in the food production industry, the other was an industrial mine. Both customers required their meters' flow values to be verified against a clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter. RS Hydro engineers attended site, set up the clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters, and took measurements which were compared against the readings provided by the customer's electromagnetic flowmeters. In the case of the food production facility, the readings verified were close to the clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter's values, and as a result the verification was a success and the certification was issued. However for the mining customer, their electromagnetic system had been in place for a long time and in the end, the customer decided the replace the whole system. A replacement system was then procured to be installed onto the process line at a later stage.
Meter verifications are recommended annually to ensure that measurements are within manufacturer's stated calibration ranges. They are also really important in case flow readings are required or requested by environmental standards bodies such as the Environment Agency. RS Hydro regularly verify inline meters, regardless of whether they are electromagnetic meters or a different technology altogether. RS Hydro can also advise in-case existing flowmeter systems need to be replaced.
