RS Hydro were contacted by a firm of architects to provide billing information for individual business units as part of a major warehouse conversion. The list of requirements considered multiple stakeholder and included remote monitoring via GPRS, billing, branding, reporting and individually tailored access rights to the data and meter configuration. A further complication required the installation to be completed without disrupting the supply to ensure business continuity.
The equipment installed was the GE Panametrics AT600 clamp on flowmeter, connected to an Outpost WASP2 remote telemetry unit. The two units were configured and tested on the bench before being installed on site, a process that is standard and part of our QA procedure for all installations.
The AT600 and Outpost combination were selected because of their security, low cost, ease of installation and ability to provide more information than just a flow total such as peak flow, sensor health, anti-tamper and GPRS signal strength. The data is hosted in the cloud on SSL certified servers to ensure security and continuity and available via any web device (without special software) to selected users. Other users receive daily and weekly reports via email with summary data whilst another group are only alerted via SMS if alarm conditions are met such as excessive flow which would indicate a leak. The output readings are also sent via .ftp into a billing and separate BMS to allow landlord and managing agent full visibility of their consumption and assets.
As additional units are occupied there is capacity to increase the number of installations and also add other sensors to the same platform, there is virtually no limit to the number or type of sensor input that can be connected to an Outpost unit.
