Overview

Please note the PT878 has been discontinued and replaced by the PT900. It is still available for rental.

The Panametrics PT878 clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter is universally regarded as the best portable ultrasonic flow meter and can be used to measure a wide range of clean and dirty liquids, even with some gas bubbles or solids. It can be used on pipes from 0.5 inch to 300 inch (12.7mm to 7.6m) on all metals and most plastics without the need to cut into the pipe.

The PT878 portable ultrasonic flow meter can be set to log up to 100,000 data points which can be downloaded to PC via its USB port . The data can then be exported to csv file and viewed in excel format.
The PT878 portable flow meter is a compact transit time (time of flight) portable flow meter suitable for a wide range of non invasive flow measurement applications. It has a wide range of optional transducers and clamping fixtures to suit all types of rugged industrial environments.

The PT878 clamp on flow meter is an easy to use flow meter which can be easily installed and up and running within minutes. The user simply has to enter the site parameters, clamp the transducers onto the pipe and adjust the spacing.

FAQ's

All of our standard transducers will do -40degC to +150degC, but this will depend on your application.
  • Liquid: below 50mm CFLP transducers are required, 50-1000mm CRS-402 transducers and 150-8000mm CRS-401 transducers. All the bits you need can be supplied, and delivered with the meter.
  • Gas: below 80mm CRS-402 is required, for 80-300mm the CRS-401/CRV-310 and for above 300mm the CRW-312 transducers are required.
  • High temperatures: For liquid we can measure +450degC for liquid and for gas/steam +250degC. But please consult RS Hydro.
As long as the pipe is relatively clean, coatings or paint is usually not a problem for clamp on flow meters but if the pipe is corroded or the paintwork has bubbled then a quick sanding down with sandpaper or a wire brush is recommended.
An ultrasonic wall thickness gauge, that measures to within 0.05mm, is provided as standard with all flow meter rental packages.
The screendump facility on the integrated dataloggers on all our flow meters, allows you to photograph any screen and download it to your pc.
